The Community Justice Authorities(CJAs) are often asked to provide input into a range of Government led consultation exercises. Each CJA reports on the local impact or local situation as required. Lothian and Borders CJA represents the five local authority regions within it's geographical area, including, City of Edinburgh, Midlothian, East Lothian, West Lothian and Scottish Borders.

Accommodation Audit

Scottish Prisons Commission

The Chief Officer, Mr Chris Hawkes, was recently invited to provide evidence to the Scottish Prisons Commission and their report was published on 1st July 2008.

Earlier in the year, Mr Hawkes spoke at a conference in Edinburgh titled 'The Future of Prisons in Scotland' and is Chair of the Community Facing Prisons strategy group in Lothian and Borders CJA (please see Action Plan 2008-09 - Our key developments and how they will be implemented).

Reforming and Revitalising

Last year the Scottish Government published the 'Reforming and Revitalising' report, a review of Community Penalites. The CJAs participated in the review meetings and this report will help shape our strategy for the next three years.

Lothian and Borders CJA also receive requests to present at national and local conferences and to local criminal justice related groups and agencies to highlight the work of the CJAs both in Lothian and Borders and across Scotland.
